Tropical vs. Westland
If you ever went, then you know exactly what I'm talking about-skating. Most of my most favorite memories happened at the skating rink. We used to go two to three times a week. Everything happened there. Girls had to have a brush and a cherry-flavored lip gloss in their back pocket. Boys wore really tight jeans and had "tejas," or mullets. The music was unbelievable. Did any of you go? What do you remember the most about going skating? Did you wear hockeys or speed skates? Which one did you prefer, Tropical or Westland?

I went to westland too...
I was a Westland baby, too :) Tropical always seemed more "dangerous" to my mom, so we weren't allowed to go. Anyone remember the "Water 'boggan" that was at the Westland site before the skating rink was opened??
I went to Westland for the most part too, except on Friday nights. We would go to Tropical to the "disco" side and dance. Does anyone remember the dance to the Apache song? lol!
Kara, I remember the water boggan. I loved it!
Tropical until Westland came around. Then went ot both - Westland more. Took awhile to get used to the wood floors.
Water Boggan was a blast!
Westland - I was a lousy skater though........Was never that coordinated
didn't it become "SUPER" at some point?
I think so, Niki, and Westland became El Baul de la Fortuna. Does anyone else remember seeing Madonna perform there, before she was "Madonna?"
I remember skating to "Mandolay" (not sure of the spelling) -- But whenever I hear that song know that what I think about--skating to it.
Niki,
That is actually the first song I remember skating to also. Did anyone used to shuffle?
I was a Westland baby through and through. In fact, I STILL have my speed skates. I loved those things and can even thank my completely messed up knee to those wonderful skating days. Shuffling? Who didn't shuffle. That was the so much fun espcially skating in a pack (but that's how I messed up my knee....long story).
Thw water boggan with two slides and the slimy mats. Simple things were so much fun.
You are SO right Jeanne. What about the music? And, what about the floor guards? Hello. I had the biggest crush on Ray! LOL
