My grandmother had a home remedy for everything. No matter what problem I had, Abuela had the solution. For example, if my foot would fall asleep, she would make me "agua de berenjena," or eggplant water. Yes, you read that right. She would boil an eggplant and have me drink the water to improve my circulation. If I was tired, she'd pull down my bottom eyelids to see if there were enough veins on my eyes, and if there weren't, she'd have me drink beets with orange juice, to cure my anemia. Even my eyecolor was "given" to me by her. She would squeeze one lemon drop into each eye every once in awhile, to make sure they would be as bright and clear as they could be. Did any of these remedies work? I can't be sure, but I'm a very healthy person today. Gracias, Abuela. Te quiero y te extraño.
So, now for the question. What home remedies did you have to endure?

for hickups suck on sugar, or a rolled up saliva wet piece of thread on your forehead.
juan..... did that really work?
For Mumps we would drink dry wine... to numb the throat....
and hot toddy's for colds... two shots whiskey, hot water, sugar or honey for taste.... and lemon. always broke the temp.
Now you see.... Mom and dad always kept us drunk.....
LOL!!!!!!!
My Irish grandfather had the all-time BEST cure for hiccups. Drink a glass of water while plugging your ears. Tricky, but it CAN be done and ALWAYS works!
My Grand-pa's cure all---agua con sal (salt water). gargle for sore throat, a couple drops in each nostril for stuffy nose.
oh, I forgot about cod liver oil and mercurichrome!
