The thing about band...
How many times have you heard the word band geek and thought, they just don't understand? I think people have such a misconception about band and people in the band. If you had one chance to explain how awesome being in the band was, what would you say?
My daughter is trying out for band in her elementary school today. It's kind of a Harry Potter approach, where the instruments picks the person (yanno, like the wand?). She hopes either the clarinet or the oboe picks her. Didn't know where else to post this, plus I figure this well be pertinent once she becomes "in the know" about the whole band secret :)
if going on trips, and getting out of classes for band activities, and being surrounded by beautiful dancers, majorettes, color guard and other band females on buses and trips make me a band GEEK? so be it!!
I always tell people that some of my closest and dearest (and sometimes strangest) friends are from back when I was in band in jr high and in high school.
That we shared a lot of blood, sweat, tears and lots of friendship and love and plenty of laughing and partying.
I tell them about the parties, the practices, the slumber parties, band camp (that always gets a laugh).
That no matter how many months or years go by, I know that they are just a phone call or email or visit away. How the years just seem to fade away. That I would do just about anything I could for my "band" friends and I know that they would do the same for me.

It feels good to have that kind of "back up".
I'll always be a "band geek"
