Music Notes

Do you remember how we wrote notes during every class and passed them back and forth to each other all day long? We used all sorts of shorthand like, BFF, ttyl, LLL, NNN, and so on. There was also a lot of code in them, just in case one of these notes got into the wrong hands! Of course, most of our writings were about boys, so I'm not going to get into any of those secret codes. Some of you guys are reading here now. But, there was also a lot of talk about music and concerts. There was mention of all kinds of bands. What concerts did you go to in the 80's? Which ones were your favorites? Why?

I not only remember the notes, I still have them tucked away in a safe place along with my high school diaries. Since chatting with everyone here, I went back the other day and started reading them....how funny!!! The things that were sooooo important back sometimes seem so trivial. But back in my day, I would dwell on them for days (ok fine....weeks) (ok....maybe months)(ok dammit......some things I just won't get over)

Back then there were more places to see concerts and not so darned expensive. We had Sunrise Musical Theatre, the Sportatorium, Miami Baseball Stadium, concerts at the beach.

Concerts I remember-(or i have ticket stubs to prove I was there)

Journey, Sammy Hagar, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith (1 big concert)

Flock of Seagulls, Adam and the Ants, Chuck Mangione, The Go'Go's, Duran Duran, Pat Travers, Black Sabbath, Triumph, ZZ Top, Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen, Motley Crue, Styx (numerous # of times), Cheap Trick, Pat Benatar,Rick Springfield, 38 Special, Rossington Collins, Molly Hatchett (at the Keg & Can)and the list goes on and on.

Denise,
I took some of the tamer ones to the reunion for the memorabilia table. Do you remember how to fold them?

Oh. I almost forgot to answer the actual question. I only went to 3 concerts in the 80's, but they were good one. Wham! I went with Niki to that one, but I think Peter went too. U2, with my mom. The best concert ever. I also went to see Genesis with my mom. My inheritance when she died was her t-shirts from each of these concerts. I still have them.

concert.....well, let me think, the Village People (first concert ever @ the Fair grounds), WHAM (no, i don't think Peter was there), Cindi Lauper, Elton John, Journey, omg Rick Springfield, the guy who sings "you spin me round, round"--i'm sure there were more.

After high school: lots of Santana (we took the kids last year, too), Cindi Lauper w/ Tina Turner, B52s, Ziggy Marley, and more.....

First REAL concert (and still my favorite) was Adam Ant...went with Heather, he had Frankie Goes to Hollywood open for him. Next was Billy Idol. Went with Heather and Lisa Flores. Yes, I even cut out the fingers of a leather glove. Next fave was Journey/Sammy Hagar/Brian Adams at the Baseball Stadium. My husbad was actually at the same concert, tho we went with different people...weirdddd!

Niki, "You Spin Me Round" is Dead or Alive, and I am listening to them as we speak on my iPod...it is so crammed with ecclectic 80's stuff it isn't even funny!

Miami Sound Machine! is another...

This is kind of an aside, as it wasn't a concert, but rather a band competition we went to up at the soccer stadium in Broward (can't remember the name of our semi-pro team back then to save my life!). We were coming home in Fred's truck, and I swear there must have been ten of us in the bed of that thing when it started to RAIN! We all huddled under a comforter that we had been sitting on...Good times :)

The Strikers...it just came to me, in a dream :)

First concert was Molly Hatchett (scary)

Followed by Doc Sevrenson, Chuck Mangione, B-52's, Go-Gos (slapped by my 'date' several times), INXS, Air Supply (girlfriend broke up with me during concert)(not the desired effect of course), Doc Sevrenson again and of course Rush where tostitos slide under the seat and missed the whole event.

My first concert was also at the Hollywood Sportatorium at the age of 7. I went to see Queen, again with my mom. I loved Bohemian Rhapsody!

Peter, I am so jealous. Prince is one concert I have always wanted to go to. I did drive by his house when I was in Minnesota though. :)
