St. Pete, Georgia, Washington, Opa Locka? What do you think was our BEST band trip and why?

mine is of st. pete when the girls all pretended to be to mature for the boys' games. The girls hid water guns in their suitcases and attacked them when they least expected it!

How about sneaking into other members rooms?

CookieTea said...

well, if it was 82-82, I wasn't there. So, what year DID the girls attack the guys with the water guns and where were we?

CookieTea said...

crystal? What does that mean?

One: stop picking on my innocent sister. After all I'm the one on Crack remember, So, I'll also be the one on crystal meth. cause I was the one that brought it to Cookies attention about St. Pete.
Two: I Just doesn't matter, a memory of the family together, is still priceless even if the facts get twisted. sorry father Carlos. Facts aren't everything! lol

CookieTea said...

Well, it's either crystal meth or old age. But, man, I still would like to know where this happened. We also walked in a really long (at least it seemed that way) parade. Someone, please help. :)

Love ya Cookie!

It's funny what we remember, huh? I didn't have such a great time in Washington and Nashville was fun. I personally had the best time in Atlanta. You know what else was memorable? How we were the best band in a lot of these towns we went to and then we weren't very good as soon as we got back home. Why was that?

CookieTea said...

yeah. this is me. We stopped in Atlanta on our way to somewhere. Remember we went to Six Flags in Atlanta?

CookieTea said...

come on guys. Help me out here. I sound nuts. :)

You are right Cookie---We did go to Six Flags in Georgia... I think it was on the way back from Gatlinburg? I don't know about the water guns in the suitcases, but I've got a great picture of Alfie, Jorge Perez, and Armando 'A La Mafia' with what looks like water guns....

CookieTea said...

thanks for coming to my rescue! I hope someone else can remember the water guns.

I still think the water guns were when we went to Deerfield! I remember water gun on the bus,I got hit in the eye. My fav time was also Gattlinberg, and that was the year we stop in Georgia, remember the very cold night swim!we all hung out around the pool but only a few got in.

CookieTea said...

that's funny. I don't remember that. :)

Cathy said...

Nashville is when we stopped in Georgia, not Gattlinberg. Sorry.

See Ruby Falls!

The skivvies I was referring to belonged to James Van Horn. The bus driver announced, "Somebody lost their skivvies," which sent the entire bus into hysterics.

CookieTea said...

I've thought that all along. Tim really is the brave one. Thanks, Tim.

OMG, I totally LOVED the band trips!! I remember sneaking out of rooms in Gatlinburg and playing that dangerous passing out game with Karen Tyra, Christina and Alfie...and some others tho the memory is slowly fading. Also, I remember the water guns and the "FMUTA Now" and "FMUTA Later" t-shirts that some of us wore (what were we THINKING??) in Nashville. And Mark Hilson and I trying to buy liquor in Gatlinburg (that guy TOTALLY ripped us off!)

Kara said...

Oops, almost forgot...my all time FAV memory is when we were in Gatlinburg ('84 I think), and all those redneck schools were there, and they hated us 'cause we had a lot of "ethnic diversity", so we all walked into the awards ceremony with someone from another "ethnicity" so proud because we were so above such pettyness ...Does anyone else remember this?!?!?

CookieTea said...

I totally remember that Kara. That is a good one. Weren't we in Nashville?
I don't remember those shirts though. What was that all about?

Cathy said...

Kara, I tell that story alot. That was not only an eye opener to what life had in store for us, But it gave us a since of pride that so many will never understand.
I also remember that guy charged us like triple the price for the stuff at the liquor store , something about how they didn't sell liquor on that day, or something.
Tim, just so that you know, I think our generation has the best genes cause non of us have aged in 20 years. We all look the same. I guess that could be a little scary if you think about it!LOL

OMG Paula--i remember talking on the phone with some of those guys from the other schools and they were saying how they liked our 'accent'!! wow, Paula, good memory.

CookieTea said...

I miss you too. I'm going to email you a picture you took for me. Do you remember? Have you moved yet?

Niki said...

Hey Barrett, how's everything going?? get in touch with me if you can..... It would be great to hear from you.... :)

Did anyone ever know about the time two band mom's got on what they thought was a nice relaxing train ride, and didnt realize something was up until the safety bar went down - at which point it was too late. They had gotten on the runaway train roller coaster.

Niki said...

boy, this has gotten good!!! Thanks for the memories!!! the booze was kept in the toilet tank after it reached our destination, right?

Cathy said...

I don't remember what trip it was, But, I had some in spary, shampoo and conditioner bottles. Some of us even drank it on the bus on our way up to where we were going.

Kara said...

Oooh, I remember about MY booze, anyway. We had to go thru bag check insiode the band room, then, DUH, bring our OWN bags out onto the bus...Um, not OUR fault if a little sumptin' extra snuck its way onto the bus :)

how come nobody mentioned "sleezburg" now that is what band camp is all about.

Kara - I remember well the FMUTA shirt, and frankly, I was shocked! What courage!

For me Gatlinburg was the most fun. On another thread Debbie brought up the tying of blankets from a balcony. Let me expand: Ramon (AKA The Crab) "borrowed" a 20 foot ladder from the hotel which we then used to free others via the balcony. For some reason that also included escaping from the girls' rooms by tying blankets together and rapelling from the second floor.

I also remember when we walked into the gym with everyone as a mixed couple when we heard that a band from Dunwoody, Georgia had made some comments about us.

Now here is something ironic: at that tournament Jazz band got an award for our rendition of some of spanish beat song (I don't remember the name). But I do remember that the judge commented on the how our conga player was just rippin' it up. That conga player from Miami was a white kid, Rob.

for you Leesburg campers...do you remember where in Leesburg? It's close to where we are living now.

CookieTea said...

those are good, mandy. thanks. I wonder where Rob is?

Gatlingurg, I think one of the racist comments was about one of our flute players who had a solo( sorry forgot her name) and some of the Georgia kids used the N word among other not so nice comments. well we showed them didn't we.

Ack, I just had a memory of going to one of the junior highs, somewhere in Hialeah, and we didn't have enough cars (God forbid the school board provide us transportation!), so some of the smaller guard girls (Rose and Lisa and Christina, I think) got into the TRUNK of one of the cars! Yes, we WERE stopped (on the way BACK to school). Good times :)

that's nuts! Imagine knowing our own kids are doing that.
