I remember certain band songs for different reasons. Eres Tu always comes to mind. It wasn't one of my favorites, but it was one of the first ones I played as a part of the HML band. Then, there's Africa by Toto (say that in Spanish. LOL) This song was pretty challenging for a marching band song. And, one of the most memorable for me was Conga by Gloria Estefan. I fondly remember playing that song at the Opa locka Parade. What fun!
What are your top 3 band songs and why?

Winds of March by Journey
just loved the music of the song when we were playing it and when i heard the actual lyrics, loved it even more.
Karn Evil 9 (Third Impression)
just brings back so many wonderful memories
Children of Sanchez
Even though I wasn't in the band then to this day when i hear the tapes, it brings chills up and down my spine
Hard to Say I'm Sorry...
Eye of the Tiger...
Thriller... (the band didn't play it but the Guard performed to it for our Winter Guard routine, it was so much fun!)

The only ones I can recall are
Star spangled banner (Duh)
Fight song (duh)
Alma Mater (Duh)
Hard to say I'm Sorry/Getaway
Late in the evening
Eye of the tiger
Africa
Eres Tu
Through the years (homecoming one year, I beleive?...)
What year did we play conga?
other that that Im drawing a blank.
I dont know if I really remember how to read music that well anymore. I still know how to play the fight song, alma mater, star spangled banner and hard rift we had in Late in the evening... dont know why... but I do. No I dont have my horn anymore, and I havent played a note since right before graduation over 23 years ago.
Did we use "Superfreak" in a halftime show one year or am I imagining things??
~Kara
How do you know you can still play them, Tim?
Kara, I have NO recollection of Superfreak. LOL. Maybe the year or two before I got there. That really would have been a good one though.
yes - unfortunately we used Superfreak in 81 I believe. I was in the rifle line and instead of using the rifle we used these little sticks with streamers on it. One of my memories of high school band and color guard that I would really really rather forget!!!!
Now THAT'S hilarious! Describe your costumes for me. Come on.
oops my bad, i cleared out my mind and it was actually "give it to me baby" by Rick James (yep even worse than superfreak) And if I remember correctly Michael and/or Maurice Long put it all together. As we all know - this white girl cannot dance and has no rhythm unless it involves a texas two step. It was HIDEOUS!!!! Everybody else was good at it, I sucked.
We wore our color guard pep rally uniforms (HML Color Guard Jersey and blue shorts and sneakers)
I couldn't face anyone that mentioned that darn song for weeks!!!!
damn it man, now I can't get that song out of my mind!!!!!!!
did we play "Malaguena" ? I know I played it but not sure if it was in high school or college.
Juan
